Soda or Pop?

Yesterday my friend Sue, the headband lady, posted this article on her Facebook about soda. I wouldn't say I'm a soda junkie, but I do enjoy a good 6-10 pepsi, coke, dr peppers per day. And if that makes me an addict, well...

I'm kidding, but dammit if that roach coach that drives up at the office every day PROMPTLY at 8:37am, doesn't get me jonesing for an ice cold DP. And if I'm honest I'll fork over some change at least 3 times a week, sometimes 4. It's just a regular can size, not like I'm drinking big gulps. Oh hell, I'm a soda addict alright? I can't help myself, it just tastes so good when it hits your lips!

So that article made me say "Katy, it's time to give up soda." And my husband said, I'll do it with you! But he already doesn't touch the stuff, so I was like, thanks babe, you're so supportive!

I Katy, declare that I will NOT DRINK soda for 30 days. Really it should be 28 days. Isn't that the length of all addiction detox programs? Everything can be learned from Sandra Bullock.

30 days of Jillian's 30 day shred, and 30 days of no liquid candy! Who's with me?

  2. I wish you the best of luck. But I am keeping my one Diet Dew a day!

  3. That's the way I was with the Diet Cokes... but a funny thing happened after 30 days. The empowering feeling I was getting from NOT drinking a soda was more rewarding than having one would have been. I kept off the soda wagon for over a year... and even now I don't feel "addicted" anymore. I have one occassionally, but more often than not, I don't.

    And it feels wonderful!

  4. I'm not a huge Coke drinker (growing up in West Texas we called everything a Coke - even if it was a DP). But I'm with you!

I gave up Diet Coke about a year ago without really realizing it. Now I only have them if I'm really jonesing for some caffeine and am on the run. But whatever the case, I'm with you for 30 days coke/soda/pop free! :)

  5. Switch to coffee! Okay, I guess that's not for everyone. I think the carbonation in soda is the bad thing. I hear that it fills up the tummy, making us feel like we have more room in there for food. Dunno, but I no longer drink soda. Changed it out for water, tons of coffee and occasionally, vodka.

  6. You will feel so much better off the stuff. I am an addict I freely admit it is true. I have to stay away from the stuff. I generally can't have just one. Having one, leads to another, another, blah blah blah. But, at 150-200 a can, holy smokes, that's a lot of calories. I can count on one hand the number of "real cokes" I've had in the last 5 months. And I feel so much better. You can do this!

  8. I gave it up 4 years ago. Best decsion. The first few days will be hellish so you might want some black tea or coffee for the caffine withdrawl. This might even give a big jump in your weight loss.

  9. I gave it up about 18-20 months ago. Just stopped drinking it and never looked back. It was, in hindsight, the best decision I ever made. Most of the time, all I drink now is water (and a glass of skim milk in the morning) and I love it!

  10. I gave them up and I honestly believe it is a big big part of why my losses have been so big the last 6 weeks. I have maybe like 3 a week and they are cans instead of one liters and twenty ouncers like it used to be! You can do it!!

  11. I was a DC addict. Gave it up three weeks ago when trying to eat more like my healthy grandma did, and honestly I don't miss it. Saves me $2 at lunch, too.
