About a month or so ago I told you about my dream to teach the whole "yoga for the big gals" thing.
I'm on a studio schedule to teach a 6 week series of classes that's all about yoga for body acceptance. Yoga for fat people, although it seriously has a nice ring to it, isn't going to fly with me. I'm all about yoga being inclusive, and that's why I want to badly to teach classes that are accepting of people of all sizes. If I say ALL sizes, I really mean ALL SIZES and that most definitely includes size 0,2,4,6 etc...
So...the classes will be every Thursday from 7/14-8/18 7:15pm-8:30pm at
Here's the class description and logo I created
This 6 week series is designed for anyone who just simply wants to feel more comfortable in their own skin. We live in a world where we are constantly bombarded with the idea that if we “achieve this”, or “look like that” we will become happy and fulfilled. Let's explore the possibility that you already have all you will ever need to live an authentic and content life. Even if you can't touch your toes, carry an extra 30 pounds, your house is a little messy and, like me, you sometimes prefer cookies over carrots.
Yoga isn't about perfection. It's about meeting yourself where you're at, flaws and all, and still showing up. Let's explore these ideas with humor, compassion and a little bit of sweat.
Throughout the 6 weeks we will discuss during classes..
Body Acceptance-A tool to move forward, not an excuse to stay stuck
Weight and Self Esteem
Adapting the physical postures of yoga to your body, and not the other way around
Bring your bodies, just as they are.
All are welcome!
OTHER NAMES THAT DIDN'T MAKE THE CUT
(thought of by my very funny friend Renee, who has a blog. Check it out HERE)
"Yogaga" (where you do yoga to Lady Gaga's Born This Way)
"Yoga Gabba Gabba" (where you do yoga and a guy in a red penis costume dances around you)
"Yoga Na Love This!"
"Frozen Yoga" (you all go out for ice cream afterwards)
Yet another reason why I wish we lived in Colorado!
ReplyDeleteAww, I so wish I could live close enough to come! It's hell trying to find a yoga instructor that doesn't cost a shiiiit-ton of money. Or have any bigger, more 'plus' sized folks in their classes. =S
ReplyDeleteIf I lived in CO I would be a happier person. I would visit Montrose as often as I could and I would also go to your yoga class.
ReplyDeleteI would totally come. If I'm ever in CO, I totally will! I'm always encouraging people to stick it out, that it gets easier, it always feels awkward at first...
ReplyDeleteI would SO sign up for this class! I'm slowly edging my way into Yoga and there is a little self-consciousness going on due to my belly. Also everyone else is like a size 6 or something!
ReplyDeletei really wish there were more classes like this..i can't do pigeon pose, swam, frog, etc because my hips are too tight and my gut is too big.
ReplyDeletedon't even get me started on the bend over, touch your toes, go into lunge now bring your other leg back (um, how? around my gut or lift it??) into downward dog now swing the leg forward to land between your ankles.
right.
you need to franchise this class of yours honey..people around the world need it and even the internet is not very helpful!!
the name is perfect. tm it today..seriously.
