Fat really does kill

Two nights ago a close friend's wife died. She died in her sleep. He got up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, came back to bed and realized his wife was dead. Just imagine that for a minute.

Are you horrified? Yeah me too.

Here's some back story for you. This guy, scott's friend, is fit. He takes care of himself, eats healthy, hikes etc. His wife...not healthy, very overweight, diabetes etc. He had multiple conversations with Scott about his wife and how he kept trying to help her lose weight. He was cautious because he didn't want to hound her or make her feel bad, but he was really worried she wouldn't be around long if she didn't get the weight off and get healthy. After a while, he just gave up because she simply refused to do anything about it. I'd say all these conversations took place about 4 years ago.

She ultimately died from complications due to her diabetes. I don't know the exact details right now. She was roughly 55 yrs old

I know fat people die every day. We all know this. For some reason though I feel like this really makes it all real for me. I now have a personal connection. I mean, she died essentially becasue she didn't care anymore and completely stopped trying.

I don't ever want to be like that. Denial is too powerful

  2. So sad. Yes, unfortunately I see this story all the time. Sometimes it ends this way and sometimes with a terrible stroke or disability. It's a good reminder for all of us. FAT WILL KILL YOU!

  3. So sorry to hear about your friend's wife. What a sobering thought this is. Fat kills - now, get rid of it! I needed to read this today.

  4. Hey lady, just found your blog and I read from the start. Like it a lot. Here's my question, why don't you ever post your weight? I feel like it makes you more accountable and maybe that would be more motivation?

Also, try eating "clean" for a month. You know, eliminate overly processed foods. Remember how when you were doing BFL, on your cheat days you would feel sick sometimes? It's because your body got used to the good stuff.

Anyway, I'm 16.6lbs into a 100lb journey so I think we are at similar spots. Right now I weigh about 209.2. My current goal is to be under 200 by christmas. I like general goals like that, not too specific.

AnywaY, I'm rambling. I'm sorry about your family friend and remember if you allow life to pass by you don't get it back.

  5. WOW! And not in the good way:-( I know you also posted around watching Supersize Me & that was from '04 I think. They said in that movie that deaths from being obese would soon overtake the #1 killer, which at the time was tobacco. That has happened! If only the general population started regarding unhealthy foods like they do cigerettes. Too bad food is the only addiction you can't totally "kick" since you need it to actually live. Weird, huh?
