My inner bitch

I have an inner bitch. I have a Debbie Downer living inside me somewhere. She's my toxic friend and we've been BFF's since as long as I can remember.

Let me tell you what that bitch she says to me.

"Those size 16 pants you fit into, that you bought, were probably just a big size 16not a real size 16."

"Those other pair of 16's that you bought last week... those were also clearly a big 16. Really more like an 18 with a 16 tag."

"You don't really look any different"

"Those jeans that fit you, the ones that you haven't worn since 2005, they were still snug."

"Your thighs still touch, and probably always will"

"You ONLY lost 15 lbs on BFL, many people lose 20-25"

Really, I could go on about what she says to me, but I don't want to.

Does anyone else have this voice inside their head telling them that they're just not good enough?

  1. Ugh. I HATE that voice. That voice talks to me too...when I have a celebration, that voice likes to discount the magnitude of the success.

I may hate that voice, but it's impossible not to listen to, isn't it?

Please know that whether they were big 16s or "regular" ones, it's still something you couldn't fit in BEFORE you did the BFL. So it's STILL a success.

Also, you lost 15 pounds and 15 inches! You rock. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise...even if it's yourself. :)

  2. YES! I have about eight pairs of size 6 jeans and I STILL don't believe I'm a true size 6. I sometimes look in the mirror and think I'm "large". During those times I remind myself how far I've come. I look for the "good" in the mirror and soon the "bad" melts away.

  6. The VOICE. It's always there - I think no matter what size a woman is. I'm reading a book right now that's discussing how women's self-esteem has plummeted in the past few decades. It seems that it is rare to find a woman who is truly comfortable with her body. It's sad, but I continually fall into the same freaking trap.

  7. the voice is alive and well - and loud - inside of me. It over-uses the word "only", it's never optimistic, and frankly, it's downright mean.
I wish I could shut it up. for good.
